Beth Lessard

Beth Lessard, was the Chairperson of Dance at A.S.U. from 1977-1993. Her PhD specialition was the scientific basis of dance. During her tenure the Dance program moved from the College Physical Education to the College of Fine Arts; Daniel Nagrin, a renowned choreographer and dance artist, joined the faculty; and the Master of Fine Arts degree was initiated. In 1993 Beth left her position as Chairperson, and Pam Matt assume the role of Acting-Chairperson In 1996, Claudia Murphy, of George Mason University, became the present Chairperson of Dance. During her years at Arizona State University, Beth has been active as an assistant director, teacher, performer, and choreographer with A.Ludwig Dance Theatre, whom she performed with throughout the United States, Brazil and parts of Europe. She is listed in the 13th edition of Who's Who of American Women and was a recipient of the Governer of Arizona's Award for Women Who Create.
